For the uninitiated, Upsy Daisy Assortment is a solid introduction to XTC though the songs thrive best in each album's story-structure, but the compilation will probably feel weightier to those who remember when the band's mixture of cynical, biting lyrics and effervescent tunes was a relatively new concept. Musically, Upsy Daisy Assortment is pop, with styles ranging from stripped-down ooh-ah-ing '50s bubblegum in Life Begins at the Hop, to the more jarring, jangly, quirky rock-pop of Making. It is perhaps their first compilation to be considered a Best of as it includes album tracks Funk Pop a Roll, Seagulls Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her, Earn Enough for Us and Chalkhills and Children in addition to their better-known singles. The track order listed on the back of the jewel case (which is the track order listed here) is not the same as the actual track order on the CD, except for tracks 14 & 15. A quick listen to the CD makes this apparent! If one compares the track durations here (which are correct) with the track durations listed on wikipedia for this CD, it's even more evident that track names have been switched around. Furthermore, the track is "Life Begins At The Hop" (not "... Top"). I tried editing this release to make the necessary corrections, but nothing happened when I hit the Submit button.
