This music is about as dark as it gets. The entire soundscape is electronic. Williams builds on the drone with atmospheric effects and wild synth washes. The soundscape is dense and foggy and the sound design is flawless. There are no holes or gaps in this layout. From the moment The Place Where The Black Stars Hang begins, this fact is abundantly clear. Subconsciously, or perhaps in reality, something is humming. Something incredibly deep and vast, perhaps something alive. Perhaps not. A slight hint of thunder is heard, far off in the distance. You begin to wonder, could it be Suddenly a louder, shorter lived hum announces its unique presence, only to vanish once you begin to take notice. The noise of great distances, and the noise of speed is the only comfort to your ears. Perhaps you're dreaming, perhaps you're flying through the. Review by Heptade PROG REVIEWER. This album is nothing less than the true offspring of Tangerine Dream's Zeit. A similar concept, ambient minimalism meant to convey the vast emptiness of the universe, it succeeds admirably, but a warning: nothing much happens

Metastatic Resonance. Deepest track I've heard in my entire life. I feel like to call this a "track" is somehow an understatement. I once listened to it and couple of others from the album out in a daylight on the lonely central square of a godforsaken Siberian city. it was a very sunny winter day, and not the brightest time of my life. nowadays it can lull me to sleep and help dispel any anxiety.

“The Place Where The Black Stars Hang” is an album, released in 1994 in one of the oldest record company in industrial music scene -- Side Effects. The album was repressed in 2006 due his still existent actuality of sounding. The album consists of five compositions which can’t be sectioned and must be listened in an exact order. The substructure is based on the majestic atmospheres that drift beside fluent low tones. Lustrous reflections of sharp singular noises construe the sense of gleaming while gentle and leisurely developing curves of static pads give maturity to compositions. The anomaly electricity fuss in the high levels of the sound provides the technological injection into music and at the same time everything is surrounded by unearthly and impressive processed field recordings. This is much more than Carl Sagan can describe to you about the universe, it is even more than single subconsciousness can brainstorm about happenings in the universe. It is unearthly musical monument which explores far distances of unstudied places of space.

I think the CD made in Germany has index points for the separate tracks (?) View the release pages...

Vacuous. That's the one word that comes to mind every time I listen to this absolutely fantastic release. I could think of no better title for it either, as one can easily imagine oneself drifting off into the black nothingness of space. Is this dark? Most definitely. Is it negative, though? Perhaps not. I, too, find this very relaxing, especially with the lights off and a cool breeze coming through the room. But it's certainly not cheery and happy. This is the ambient album for the Zen student seeking the great void.

What we have here is the ultimate proof that I don't need whales or sounds from the rainforest to chill-out. Although many listeners have defined this album as 'dark' I have always considered it as the ultimate bedtime CD. It relaxes me instantly, it makes me feel comfortable & safe and most important, it sounds beautiful all the way through. I guess this is the type of music that I will hear at the end of the tunnel. Music for angels on earth, like me! Brian's best work so far. Pitty it has not been repressed yet!
